If your car is not blowing warm air into the cabin and the coolant level is fine, then you could have an issue with your heater core.

Car heater not working when driving. The needle should rise to the lower end of the normal range within 3 miles of normal driving or 5 minutes of stop and go city driving, and some heat should be coming out of the heater vents, and within 5 miles or two more minutes city. If it’s not coming on at all, it’s usually either the blower motor or some other wiring issue. • a blower fan that isn’t working properly.

At the simplest level, there are two main reasons why the heater is not working. If the car’s engine is warm and the heat is turned on, warm air should be circulating. Why my car's heater only works when the car is in motion but not when is stopped, like in a traffic light ?.

The coolant that enters into the heater core needs a proper channel to travel. Another reason why your car heater might not be working properly is the heater core. Lift the hood and check the temperature around where the heater core hoses enter the heater core box.

The heater core and radiator sort of act like a filter for your cooling system trapping debris. Not having a functioning heater makes driving much less comfortable, and can be a sign of certain issues. If you suspect that something is amiss with your car’s heater core, watch for these signs:

The most common culprit for your heaters not working is a faulty thermostat. Your car’s thermostat is a valve that opens and shuts to regulate the coolant flow to the engine and radiator. Your car might have adequate coolant level but the heater core might be clogged!

As far as the heater not heating up fast in the car, either the engine coolant is not hot enough yet to heat up the car or there is an issue with the heating system or cooling system in the vehicle. The lack of heat being generated by your system may indicate a clogged heater core. Your car heater may not be working, but that doesn’t mean you’re completely out of luck.
